♕ Make Up Look ~ Emeralds are a Mermaid's Best Friend ♕

Today's look was inspired, once again, by Laura aka TheClassicalMua on Instagram - one of my very favourite artists on there - and features again some glitters by GlitterTubes.

I didn't know how to name this look until the very last second. I just knew it gave me emeralds vibes and thus I wanted a name that could connect it to that gemstone - but nothing came up to my mind until this afternoon. At some point I remembered the song "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friends" and I thought, well... Emeralds could definitely be a mermaid's best friends, right? ;D

This is Laura's version - all matte, with brown and nude shades. I loved the reversed colour scheme effect, almost like an optical illusion. For my version I picked all mermaid shades - and, although it looked great with only matte shadows, I had to add some sparkles to it! I just can't help, you know I cannot resist to sparkling and glittery things :p

I don't know how Laura made her version, so I had to sort out the process that would work the best for me.
We doing these kind of look, for me the crucial thing is creating a pencil base that would work as a guide. So, after priming my lids, I started off by creating the crease blending (I used all NABLA Cosmetics eyeshadows): I applied Antique White first, on my brow bone; then I applied Petra on the crease. blending it evenly. To achieve a smooth transition, I used Narciso as transition shade.

When the crease blending was done, I moved on to the base design: I used a black eye pencil (Feline by MAC Cosmetics) and used it to mark the darker areas - the outer V shape and the inner crease line. I used a white eye pencil to do the same with the darker areas (lid and outer V frame line), then got back to the black pencil and used it to define my upper lashline - eyeliner style.

Having all the basic scheme already designed made everything easier and quicker. On the white areas I applied Shore Thing eyeshadow by Makeup Geek Cosmetics (I had to build a little the product to achieve a nice aqua shade, it's such a pale shadow); on the black areas I applied Dragonfly eyeshadow by Makeup Geek Cosmetics (and also on the lower lid, where I didn't use any pencil). Thanks to the black base, Dragonfly shade got darker and deeper - and got bright when blended on the light areas. The tricky part was the "eyeliner" - I used the shadow dry and pressed it on the black base in the most accurate and exact way I could.

When I was happy with the overall result, I decided to add glitters. Mind you, I loved the all matte effect - it has definitely a charm! - but I also knew I had the right glitters for this look. That is, Splash pressed glitters by GlitterTubes: I used a couple of flat synthetic brushes in different sizes (a bigger and wider one and a smaller, thinner one) and applied the glitters on almost all the dark green areas: the outer V, the inner crease line and on the lower lid (basically I only skipped the eyeliner). I didn't use any glue.

As final touches I applied a teal eye pencil on my waterline, and used Angel highlighter by NABLA Cosmetics on my tear duct. Lastly, I completed the look by defining and filling in my brows, adding false lashes and apply mascara.

  1. Adoro questo bel gradiente di verde che inizia chiaro e poi va via scurendosi con maestria. Si fa fatica a staccare gli occhi, bello bello.
